Hello and welcome to the homepage of Dr Edmund R Hunt, a scientist at Bristol University, UK. My research goals can be summed up as ‘Engineering Emergence’. Can we use the simple behavioural rules discovered by nature to design swarm robots, that solve tasks such as exploration, or foraging? I hope to find out through my interdisciplinary research: and engineer the emergence of solutions in complex, multi-agent systems.

Previously I have studied human collective behaviour in economics and finance, and biological collective behaviour in ant colonies (Temnothorax) and social spiders (Stegodyphus). Evolution has been very successful in creating swarms of individuals to solve problems at the group level (e.g. decision-making, collective predation).
